Quick start information for Notes.prg v0.9 10/26/89
------------------------------------------------------
******************** ATTENTION! *****************************
THERE SEEMS TO BE SOME CONFUSION REGARDING THE NOTES.DAT FILE.
THIS FILE MUST!!!!! BE EDITED TO SHOW THE CORRECT
PATH FOR YOUR NOTES DIRECTORY! IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS
THE NOTES PROGRAM WILL NOT RUN CORRECTLY!
If your NOTES directory is located on drive C:, edit the
NOTES.DAT file to read as follows:
C:\NOTES\
HELP.NOT
0
DO NOT PUT ANYTHING ELSE IN THIS FILE! I have resisted the
temptation to make Notes install it's self, as this is only
done infrequently. If I did this you would have to pay the
price in memory all the time. This dosen't matter much on a
program but could be critical in a DA. We have been advised
that editing the NOTES.DAT file is a unforgivable burden on
the user, therefore we are looking into coming up with a
seperate install program. To those of us who were unable to
get notes to run, I apologize for the inconvienence. However
I doubt you will be reading this.
****************************************************************
To use NOTES, you must place the file notes.dat on
root directory of the boot disk. To change to path
configuration, use a ascii text editor to change the
drive specification on the first line in notes.dat.
The first line is the path that points to the folder
that contains the note data files. Notes can be
used as either an accessory or a program, depending
on the 3 digit file extender. Once you have Notes
running, press help to learn the command key structure.
More information is available in the file Notes.txt
which accompanies these release files. There is also
a similar set of information in the file Startup.not.
With revision of Notes, the registration fee rises from
$10 to $15. If interest indicates we may offer a
printed manual in the future.
------------------------------------------------------
Changes....
------------------------------------------------------
There have been many changes since the last version
of Notes was posted.
1. Mouse support has been added to both the index and
the normal Note screen. It is now possible to move
around in your notes without touching the keyboard.
2. The first level of hypertext support has now been
implemented. This allows a direct change of
subject files to a related file, using a click of
the mouse.
3. The first level of external file support has been
added. It is now possible to store related ascii file
information on a note and directly view it.
4. A primitive import program is provided with this
release. This is NOT the difinitive import program
for Notes. To use this program, you must format
an ascii text file with 64 character lines. Name
the input file INPUT.TXT and run IMPORT.PRG. This
will generate a file called OUTPUT.NOT which you can
rename to whatever you want to call the note file.
Be advised, you WILL have to do some editing cleanup
of the file.
------------------------------------------------------
When in doubt as to the documentation of new features
of notes, you may refer to the Notes.txt file, but the
most current information is in the Help.not.
------------------------------------------------------
Enjoy the new version, and as always, remember your
starving shareware author....
